Some viewing entertainment, especially for the Datsun guys, while we wait from spring.
It was a strong showing again for the CPVRG gang, this time at the Autobahn Country Club. Racing in October can be tricky in the Mid-West, but we lucked out with reasonable temperatures and occasional glimpses of sunshine.
With only That Looong Race left on the schedule, many vintage racers are just trying to squeeze in one last race before putting away the rides for the winter. That opportunity brought out a few competitors we don’t normally see, including some country club members.
Enough text, let’s get to the pictures:

Just a great weekend of racing at Road America for the Checkered Past Vintage Race Group. The weather couldn’t have been better, though some of the cars had “issues” that kept them out of the race on Sunday. But, that’s what happens when you race 40+ year-old cars.
More video, pics, and info to come, but here’s the first video – ride along in member Bill Oakes’ 1973 Datsun 240z in Sunday’s race.
100+ degree heat indexes didn’t keep Checkered Past VRG racers from placing two members on the podium in Midwestern Council’s July 15th race. Alfa Romeo GTV racers John Saccameno and John Wheeler finished second and third after 30 minutes of wheel-to-wheel racing. Three other members (Atkinson, Connell and Wiertz) finished the race, which is no small feat for 40+ year-old cars in 100+ degree heat.

After two miserable racing weekends the CPVRG was blessed with perfect racing weather, and very favorable results. Onboard Bill Oakes’ 1973 Datsun 240z.
No, I’m completely sure what that means either, but we’re headed to the Autobahn Country Club to find out! It is also the MC’s first ever three hour full course enduro, that promises to be a lot of fun to drive and watch.
Our race at BFR two weeks ago was another wet and windy weekend, not good for high speed racing at all. Hopefully this won’t be the third consecutive race with rain, we’re anxious to stretch our legs a little.
