A great turn out for Council’s Double Dose Challenge at Blackhawk Farms Raceway. Sixteen cars practiced, 13 qualified and 12 started the race. Four CPVRG members made it to the race this weekend with another podium finish for member Bill Oakes. Enjoy.

Summer Fun at Blackhawk Farms Raceway
Summer heat and threats of rain made for another great July race at Blackhawk Farms Raceway and the CPVRG crew. Member Bill Oakes in his 1973 Datsun 240z posted a 2nd place finish after some good racing with the usual suspects, the Manta and Porsche 914. Ride along:

CPVRG Closes the Season On A High Note
An end of the season tradition for us is Chicagoland Sports Car Club’s Loooong Race, a 100 mile race (broken into two sessions for Vintage/Historic) at Blackhawk Farms Raceway. It’s usually the largest grid of the year for us with 30 to 40 vintage race cars, and this year had more than 30 signed up to race.
23 cars started the race on Saturday and in the end, CPVRG accounted for four of the top ten, with member Bill Oakes taking the final checkered flag for the overall win!
Big thanks to all of the workers, friends and others who helped us through the season. Also another thanks to our sponsor, Sport & Specialty Restorations and Vintage Racing shop.

Good Showing for the CPVRG Gang Again
Checkered Past Vintage Race Group brought home second (Bill Oakes), third (John Saccameno), and fourth (John Wheeler) places at Midwestern Council Sports Car Club’s race, Steel of Track, on September 29.
One more race to go, and it’s the big one, Chicagoland’s Loooong Race on October 19th. Come to the track and join us, it’s always a great time, and usually a very good group of cars to watch race.
In the meantime, enjoy a few minutes from the Steel of Track race in Bill Oakes’ 240z.

Back to Gingerman, for Some of Us
The CPVRG gang had plans on a better turn out for our return to Gingerman Raceway in many years, but bad weather, work plans, and a broken differential thinned out the pack a little. Still a good time at a very nice track. Hope to be back next year.A small pack for the start But spirited racing right away The Z had one lap and then out with a bad differential -
And we’re off!
The first race of the 2013 season is in the books. What started as a very cold and windy weekend ended in perfect weather for the CPVRG gang. Special thanks to this year’s sponsor of the CPVRG site, Sport and Specialty Restorations and Vintage Racing Shop.
